On August 26th and 27th, 2024, WWF, in partnership with the Department of Tourism, organized a comprehensive training session for the Community-Based Ecotourism (CBET) group in Koh Prumacharey, Chroy Banteay. The training, centered on "Standard Housing" and "Community Housing Design," aimed to enhance the quality of local accommodations, making them more appealing to eco-conscious travelers.
During the two-day event, participants, including members of the Commune Council and the Mekong River Dolphin Conservation project, gained valuable insights into various housing types, effective community housing evaluation, and proper arrangement techniques. This initiative represents a pivotal step in boosting the region’s ecotourism potential, aligning local housing standards with the growing demand for sustainable tourism.
By improving accommodation quality, the training contributes to the overall development of ecotourism in Koh Prumacharey, ensuring that visitors experience comfortable and environmentally-friendly stays while supporting conservation efforts.
To enhance ecotourism potential, it is recommended to continue building local capacity through regular training on sustainable housing practices, establish an eco-friendly accommodation certification program, and promote these improvements through targeted marketing. Empowering the community to take ownership of these initiatives will ensure lasting benefits for both tourism and conservation.
