WWF’s mission in Cambodia is to ensure that there will be strong participation and support from all people to conserve the country’s rich biological diversity.  The WWF-Cambodia Conservation Programme that started more than 10 years ago is implemented in 2 landscapes – Eastern Plains Landscape (EPL) and Mekong Flooded Forest (MFF) Landscape and built over the following 4 pillars of interventions: (1) Securing Landscape Integrity sustaining conservation and livelihood development, (2) Freshwater and Sustainable Hydropower, (3) Protected Area Management and Conservation Research and (4) Sustainable Financing – Green Economy.

WWF-Cambodia is looking for one qualified national Candidate to fulfill a full time consultancy position:  Community Forestry Assistant for the period of 5 months and base in Kratie Province:

I. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Facilitate CF legalization and development by working closely with local authorities, communities, Community Forestry Management Committee (CFMC) and local Foestry Administration (FA) to ensure functioning of CF managements.
  2. Provide technical support to CFMCs on CF management including institutional capacity building of the CF,  CF patrolling, filling complaint and recording of illegal logging activities…etc.
  3. Assist CF & Community Fisheries Coordinator to develop annual, quarterly and monthly work plan, and develop training program to build capacity of the communities
  4. Facilitate CFMC to organize monthly meeting and CF networking
  5. Manage CF data, and keep tracking of the progress of CF development
  6. Assist to provide capacity building on forestry law, wildlife and forestry law to CFMC and community members, and monitor illegal poaching activities including wildlife trade; illegal logging and hunting…etc.
  7. Assist to develop project monthly and quarterly reports, and monitoring CF deliveries
  8. Assist and coordinate with Enforcement Team to implement and strengthen forestry enforcement in the target areas
  9. Conduct regular field visit to follow up CF management performances of CF committees, and provide backstopping to CFMC for their day to day implementation of CF managements.
  10. Assist to conduct community assessment and development of CF success stories
  11. Perform other tasks as requested by supervisor and Landscape Manager
II. Qualifications:
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources management, forest protection and management, or in relevant fields
  • At least 2 years working experience in community forestry and community organizing
  • Knowledge and use of Khmer language and some of English language
  • Experience in working with local authorities and Forestry Administration
  • Knowledge of CF development and legalization, and forestry law and CF guideline on CF management
  • Experience working in the Mekong River or Protected Areas
Skills & Abilities
  • Experience and skills in training and transfer of knowledge to community level
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of GPS
  • Report writing of activity implementation
  • Must be able to travel extensively and at times to do this with very short notice
